A Welcome Encounter

It all started with pulling Into Ashford and Viv backed into the car park.  In a lot of NSW, you don’t angle park forward in but rather reverse in so your nose points to the street.

There was an awning on the shop as a lot of old shops used to have poles to hold them up.  I was yelling to Viv to stop but she had her windows up and wasn’t paying attention.  The Lady in the shop even came out and thought it was going to get hit.  Well anyway as per the picture she just stopped in time.

Anyway, a gentleman eating a Potato Cake (Slice of Potato Deep fried in Batter) up the street saw the van and took a keen interest in it.  We get a lot of people interested in our Motorhome. I noticed that he was wearing a cross and so asked him if he was a Christian.

He said he was the local minister who was there for 6 months as part of his Bible course.  He was previously a mining engineer and had felt the call of God to go and study the Bible and to teach/preach etc.  He loved the van and asked if he could bring his wife over for a look.  We said of course and she had a look as well.  We told them what we were doing, and they invited us back to their house for a Cuppa.

We went back and he filled us in on how he was getting involved with the locals and how they were being blessed to see some growth. It is exciting to see and hear good things happening in the country.

We probably only saw about 5 people in the whole town while we were there.

Anyway it was great to meet more Christians out trying to help their local community and sharing the Gospel in unique ways.

  1. We noticed your Van parked opposite our Unit on Kingston Beach, Tasmania this morning as we were returning from our daily beach walk, so we left a note under your windscreen. Hope we can catch up with you both, and share some Tasmanian hospitality with you. We returned from Israel 3 weeks before the war started, and would love to go back if we ever get the chance……Steve and Ros.
